2007 has been a very trying year for me. I have attempted to get this photography business up off the ground. I'm learning that starting a business is much more difficult than I thought.
This business is not like most. It relies heavily on word of mouth. I have a background in media and I know that advertising is good, as long as you target who you are trying to reach. But in photography, word of the mouth is the best advertising tool. I've kicked around a few ideas here and there about the best way to get the word about my business and I've come to realize that it all comes down to word of mouth and very creative marketing. I can't devulge my secrets for fear that other photographers might steal my ideas (haha).
Look for much bigger and better things out of me in 2008. I am adding several dimensions to my business. It will really be about 3 or 4 businesses all rolled into one tidy little package. My clients will be able to get more bang for the buck.
I am in the process of working on a new website, no myspace. I'll have all new packages for you to choose from. It's hard to believe spring is right around the corner. Be sure to look for a bunch of new specials and deals.

Republican politics
I'll go ahead and say up front that I am a Republican. However, I am a conservative first, Republican second.
Before we go any further, I want to give some thoughts on what I see as the top four candidates in the GOP side of the race.
Rudy Giuliani was there for New York in it's darkest hour. His steadfastness for the citizens of New York helped earned him the title of America's Mayor. Giuliani casts himself as conservative who'll be tough on immigration and the war on terror. However, Giuliani's record is anything but conservative. In fact, he's a pro-choice Republican, which is a big strike against him here in the south.
Mitt Romney is someone I admit I don't really know that much about. I do know that he has waffled on key positions like a woman's right to choose in the past. And being from Massachusetts, he's got to be liberal.
John McCain, called a "Maverick" for his cowboy-like approach to politics, is really a long-shot to win this race. Yes, he is a a war hero who spent several years in the Hanoi hilton and for that we are in his debt. However, he's opposed President Bush on several issues and then on other issues, he's been right in step with Bush. His endorsement from Independent and former Democrat Vice Presidential nominee Joe Lieberman really won't help his cause to get to Pennsylvania Avenue either.
Mike Huckabee is the biggest surprise in this race. Huckabee spent ten years in Arkansas as Governor of that state. He's got a lot of very conservative values that play well with the so-called Christian right. It doesn't hurt that he was and is still is an ordained baptist minister. Of all of the candidates, Huckabee seems to have the most core conservative values. I believe he talks straight from the heart on many issues that will mold and shape this election. Those being the war in Iraq, the war on terror, immigration, the economy, health care and the future of the country. I feel he has some interesting ideas about how this country should be run.

Getting ready for Christmas
It seems Christmas has just crept up on me this year. We've got three kids and each has a birthday in October, November and December. So by the time you buy gifts for all of them, have parties, you're already at Thanksgiving. Then Christmas is only a few weeks away, and then, on top of that, it's my anniversary on Dec. 21st. It's been five years. Wow, how time flies. This weekend I'm going to see the in-laws in Katy. The just moved there a few months from Mandeville, which is on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. They've been gone since Tuesday. I had to work and finish up some shopping before I could go. I think I have all of the kids presents but I may do some last minute shopping in Houston for Kara and her parents. We'll come back on Sunday evening and then Monday night, my family will be here. My brother is stationed in Iraq so it will suck not having him here. And my sister's new husband John has to go back to work so that's kind of bad, but it'll be alright. I guess I'm the man this year!

Welcome to my blog!
I am kind of new to this blogging thing. Everyone I know just about has one, so I figured why not get one for myself. I don't have a lot to say tonight and as you can see, my blog is not anywhere near finished. It's to late to try to work on something like that. I'll be putting stuff on here about my photography mostly, but I also like politics so I'm sure I'll be posting some stuff with the presidential race coming up. Thanks for stopping by.
